Economic Comparison - Mechanized Cable Bolting
Alternative 1:
The mechanized cable bolting is carried out with a unit mounted on a used
loader, lorry or truck. Drilling is performed by a production drilling
machine, that can be used for production drilling too, when there is no
cable bolting job.
Average total capacity: 250 m/shift (820
ft/shift)
Alternative 2:
The mechanized cable bolting is made with a unit that drills, groutes
and inserts, with equipment mounted on the same boom. This can not be
used for production drilling.
Average total capacity: 100 m/shift (328
ft/shift)
Investment cost:
The same for the two alternatives (complete bolter versus bolter + production
drill rig).
Interest rate: (used for calculation)
10%
Production and maintenance costs USD 2-4
for both units

* In alternative 1 the wage is calculated
for 1 operator for drilling and 1 operator bolting. In alternative 2,
1 operator is doing both drilling and cable bolting.
RESULT
Because of the multiuse of the drilling unit and more than twice the capacity
for alternative 1, this alternative to be recommended.
