Economic follow-up of cable bolting unit at Kiruna Mine (LKAB) 1994-1998

Kiruna Mine is the largest underground iron ore mine in the world with a production rate of 20 million tons (44 million lbs). Mining method is sub-level caving. Most operations are extremley mechanized to achieve the highest productivity.

The cable bolter is build on a Scania City (ordinary city lorry). Cable bolting is performed with a special cable (26 mm, with an air bleeding hose in the middle), 65 mm (2.54 inch) dia drill holes, 7-11 m (23-36 ft) long.

From june 1994 to dec 1998, were 99.012 m (324.750 ft) cable bolted. The unit is still in operation.
